SALUTE REPORTS – A Refresher course. Of course, many of you heard about this from those military manuals, past service, the meetings, the campouts, or somewhere else. If you’ve never heard of them, go slap your commanding officer for not telling you. SALUTE report stands for: S- Size of the activity A – Activity taking place L – Location of action(s) U – Uniform(s) of the intended subject(s) T – Time of action E – Equipment that was used. This is the standard way of reporting in the military. For this drama, if you are taken, or you witness it happen to someone else, your SALUTE report can save a life somewhere else. Remember the post, “FL: How the arrest took place”? Think about it. Keep that in mind if you or someone else gets taken. You will undergo trauma, they will scare the life out of you, but try to remember all the details you can. This is part of the battle, people. You need to know this. S- Size: How many were there? A- How were you (or the other person subdued)? What were you doing when it happened? Were your telecomms taken out prior? Were you injured? L- Location – where were you when it took place? At you home? Your car? Walking? U – What agency(s)? Were they wearing suits? SWAT gear? Who was the arresting officer? T – what time did it happen? What was the weather like outside? E- what kind of weapons? High tech gear? Gas? Armor? Air support? Every detail is important. It won’t help you, but it can help others. In you find yourself in custody, you’ll miss you’ve loved ones at first. They’re not thinking about you. They’re getting the house ransacked while you’re trying to remember what day it is. Remember: SALUTE. SALUTE – while you’re in the holding cell. Remember it when you make that one call. Write it down if you have to. Everything you remember. The lights, the screams, their statements, anything. We're gonna make it through this, people...I believe in you. One way to keep each cell unit informed is through SALUTE reports. A SALUTE report is a written report which can be used to inform others of necessary information. Here's how to do one and what all of it means. At the top of your page is the word FROM. If you cannot give your name, work within the cell units to establish a code name. On the second line is the word TO. List those by unit, name or whatever is appropriate. On the third line, give a few short words to describe what the communication is about... much the way we tell the subject matter of our e - mails. The next line is the date and the time of day (if necessary.) Now here's what the report should look like and what it all means. SALUTE is an acronym for different questions you should ask yourself when you see or encounter the enemy or discover something that affects us. Here is what each letter in tha acronym mean and what information you should include: S = Size: How big is the unit, how many people. Be as accurate as possible. A = Activity: What are they doing? L = Location: Where is the activity taking place? U = Unit or Uniform: Who have you encountered, how can they be identified (uniforms, t shirts, identifying information of any kind.) T = Time: When (as exactly as possible) did you see them? E = Equipment: describe the equipment that you see ( include everything from small arms and night vision to the vehicle they are in.) That's basically it. Accuracy is the most important thing and pictures or the SALUTE report of another cell unit member is desireable. The more accurate and complete the SALUTE report is, the greater chance that we can assess and plan for the threat.
